Come on down and have fun at the Sandlady's Gourd Festival, in Tangier, IN, Fri., June 24, from 9 AM - 4 PM! "Gourd Festival?" you marvel. "What's a gourd?" Gourds are the inedible, but long-lasting cousins of the pumpkin/melon/cucumber family and they come in as many shapes and sizes. Early humans used gourds as containers. Nowadays gourds are both functional and decorative. Almost anything that an artist can do to paper, canvas, wood, or clay can be done to gourds: draw, paint, calligraphy, cut, engrave, mold, weave, faux finish. We even make musical instruments. Gorgeous art or cute craft -- Native American, Western, African, Oriental, modern or holiday designs -- you'll see what's possible! Helen and her gurus will answer questions and demo techniques using tiny tools. Does your group need cash? Decorated gourds make great fundraisers. (We've even got a few tricks to make anyone a creative genius!) You can even grow toys for your kids with Tennessee Spinners and Cannonballs! Have you bought a loofah recently? Did you know you can grow those? In addition to selling plain and crafted gourds, Helen has a gourd museum. Listen to her and her artist friend Pat Moore talk about gourds in this 3 min. video from 2012. https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=AwrTcd7XOmNXOFAA7tYnnIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTEyZGxlMzIyBGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDQjIyNzRfMQRzZWMDc2M-?p=Sandlady&fr=yhs-mozilla-001&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-001#id=1&vid=f8eb1601222d8bc184c1f765ba5a3765&action=view Contact Helen at 765-498-5428 or sandlady@sandlady.com. Want to order some gourds? Check out her website http://www.sandlady.com/. When you get hooked on gourds, check out http://www.indianagourdsociety.org/ or go to Facebook and find "Helen Thomas," "Indiana Gourd Society," and "American Gourd Society." Also, you might enjoy our late friend Ralph Irish's 1/2 hour video on his art/craft gourds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4xCDz9O2po. The Indiana Gourd Society also hopes to see you at the Indiana State Fair at the Ag-Hort building this August. Helen and Pat will be on the square in Rockville for the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival in October. Visit all of us at the Indiana Gourd Society State Show in Lebanon, IN, at the Boone County Fairgrounds on May 5-6. Watch for the Sandlady later this summer on an upcoming episode of the RFD TV show "Small Town Big Deal" on cable and Direct TV stations. You can find them at http://www.smalltownbigdeal.com/ and https://www.facebook.com/smalltownbigdeal. Grab your calendar now. You'll be glad you brought granny and the kids to check out the amazing art and clever craft available at the Sandlady's Gourd Farm, 10295 N 700 W Tangier, In. 47952 on Fri., June 24, from 9 AM to 4 PM. Come to Parke County. Leave Rockville headed north on U.S. 41 for 10 miles. Turn west (left) on County Road 1050 N. Watch for the signs. FREE ADMISSION & PARKING! How do we know you’ll have fun? We heard it through the gourd vine!
