Come on down and have fun at the Sandlady's Gourd Festival, in Tangier, IN, Fri., June 24, from 9 AM - 4 PM! "Gourd Festival?" you marvel. "What's a gourd?" Gourds are the inedible, but long-lasting cousins of the pumpkin/melon/cucumber family and they come in as many shapes and sizes. Early humans used gourds as containers. Nowadays gourds are both functional and decorative. Almost anything that an artist can do to paper, canvas, wood, or clay can be done to gourds: draw, paint, calligraphy, cut, engrave, mold, weave, faux finish. We even make musical instruments. Gorgeous art or cute craft -- Native American, Western, African, Oriental, modern or holiday designs -- you'll see what's possible!
Helen and her gurus will answer questions and demo techniques using tiny tools. Does your group need cash? Decorated gourds make great fundraisers. (We've even got a few tricks to make anyone a creative genius!) You can even grow toys for your kids with Tennessee Spinners and Cannonballs! Have you bought a loofah recently? Did you know you can grow those? In addition to selling plain and crafted gourds, Helen has a gourd museum. Listen to her and her artist friend Pat Moore talk about gourds in this 3 min. video from 2012. https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=AwrTcd7XOmNXOFAA7tYnnIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTEyZGxlMzIyBGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDQjIyNzRfMQRzZWMDc2M-?p=Sandlady&fr=yhs-mozilla-001&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-001#id=1&vid=f8eb1601222d8bc184c1f765ba5a3765&action=view
